I was asked by a student and childhood victim of the family court system for why KidsMatter exists to help give Children a voice. This is what I wrote him:
Fighting for my kids against false allegations and witnessing firsthand the corruption interwoven between opposing counsel and the judge was a harrowing experience. It’s a stark reminder of the systemic flaws within our family court system—a system that, in its current state, often prioritizes financial incentives over the well-being and interests of children.
Before anyone considers marriage, it’s crucial to understand the harsh realities of the divorce court. Many enter marriage with the best intentions, but few truly grasp the potential fallout should things go awry.
The divorce court is not the impartial arbiter of justice many believe it to be. Instead, it can be a battleground where corruption, unfair practices, and financial motives overshadow the primary concern that should guide every decision: the best interests of the children involved.
This personal battle has not only been a fight for my own family but has also fueled my passion and resolve to ensure that no child or parent has to endure what my family went through. It’s a testament to why Kids Matter exists.
We’re not just fighting for the sake of legal victories; we’re fighting to reform a system that has lost its way, to bring it back to its core mission—safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of children caught in the crossfire of adult disputes.
The divorce court system, as it stands, is a minefield of potential injustices. From false allegations that can tarnish reputations and destroy lives to the cozy relationships between opposing counsel and judges that can skew the scales of justice, the challenges are daunting.
It’s a system where the depth of one’s pockets often determines the outcome of custody battles, rather than the genuine needs and best interests of the children involved.
Let my story be a cautionary tale and a call to action. Before embarking on the journey of marriage, understand the potential perils of the divorce court. And if you find yourself navigating this tumultuous terrain, know that you’re not alone. Kids Matter is here to stand with you, to fight for you, and to ensure that the voices of the children are heard loud and clear.
Our mission is to transform the family court system into one that truly serves the best interests of the children it’s meant to protect, free from corruption, bias, and financial exploitation.
This fight is personal, not just for me, but for every parent and child who has been wronged by the system. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that the family court system returns to its rightful focus: the well-being of our children, the future of our society.
A Note on Marriage and Family Court Laws:
Given the current state of family court laws, a cautious approach to marriage is advisable. The laws, as they stand, often do not serve the best interests of children or the principles of fairness and justice. Advocating for the abolition or significant reform of these laws is a core part of our mission. Furthermore, addressing judicial immunity is crucial; judges must be held accountable when they fail to adhere to the laws and principles meant to guide their decisions. Only through comprehensive reform can we hope to protect the rights and well-being of children and families navigating the family court system.
